Biscuit Packaging

(for some reasons my photos are not uploading!)

What symbols/colour has the company used to persuade their target audience (children or
Adults)?

The biscuit is called gourmet crackers and coincidentally the company's name is "Tucker's". Its target audience is definitely for adults and this is shown through the colours that they have used in their packaging. Tucker's use very mature, neutral colours such as light brown, black and yellow for the packaging. The symbols they use are pictures of cheese and chives scattered around them. Also the motif which says "handmade and all natural", also attracts the more mature target audience.

What sort of message do you think the colours are trying to convey? Do the colours the
company has used for the packaging indicate taste/flavour?

The colours convey a very mature market. They are not too bright or loud, and really emphasises "gourmet". The flavour is "four cheese and chives". This is shown through their colour of yellow and the picture of cheese and chives at the top.

What style of typography has the company used (serif/san serif/italic/bold) and what does
this say about the brand?

The company has used sans serif all the way through with the exception of the text at the bottom which is in italics and more of a handwritten style type. This says that the brand is mature, upmarket and contemporary but still has the personal touch.

What materials/construction has company used to package the biscuits? In your opinion is
the packaging functional?

The company has used cardboard for its packaging, and then inside it has the plastic box which holds the biscuits, then there is a plastic bag to hold the box and biscuits together. The packaging is definitely functional, but there seems to be more then neccesary.

In your opinion is the packaging eco-friendly and/or sustainable? Why/why not?

In my opinion, the packaging is not that eco-freindly. There is too much plastic used, but the outside box is recyclable.

My three logo designs

This is my final three logo design.
The colours are all based on the Australian landscape.
The design has multiple meanings. The curved line is to represent the sun, which all 'bush tukka' grows under. The gumtree leaves which are multiplied represent the tukka which grows from the sun. As a whole, the image looks like a sun, with its rays reaching out. This strengthens my analagy of bush tukka , grown from the sun. In addition, the image as a whole also looks like a pea pod which is also a form of bush tukka.

Colour application

This is my application of colour using the colours from the Australian landscape activity in tute three. For the last logo colour application, i wanted to cut out anything outside the circle, but i am unsure of how to do this.

Revised Logo experimentation

After having a look at the original logo experimentation, I decided to take Lisa's advice and go with the design of the gum leaf multiplied on top of the curved line.

I liked this design as it has multiple meanings.

I have played around with the negatives of the shape, and also looked at different shapes as the background.

I am yet to decide on a final logo shape! any suggestions would be MUCHLY appreciated. They are all starting to look the same since they are all bunched up on the one page. eek

colour study

This is my colour study for tutorial three. Because the word, 'Tukka' is from the bush, I used a picture of the Australian landscape. There are so many earthy, neutral tones in the picture which consists of gumtrees (which is what my logo derived from), and the dustry red landscape .

(I just realised that the last colour is wrong, it is Pantone 125PC, C8M31Y100K19)

logo first steps

Hmmm... this is what I have so far of the Tukka logo. I am a little stuck as my knowledge of Illustrator is EXTREMELY limited. It is actually quite frustrating.

I chose the gumtree leaf as in Australia, there are gumtrees EVERYWHERE. I started experimenting with the leaf and separating bits and pieces. I am quite unhappy with what there is at the moment, but this is it so far. It looks more like a wine company's logo then a food company's one for some reason. I will try to experiment more during the week. hmmm

Activity threee

This one took me a LONG time to do! Every time I tried dividing my paths, it would always leave the last segment in a group of two. It was quite confusing but it is finally done! I think it looks better from far away then close up though

Arnotts Branding and Logo

Arnotts is a market leader in Australia's snack food industry. Arnotts was born in 1865 when William Arnott opened a biscuit bakery in Newcastle. Their famous logo of a parrot eating a biscuit was registered in 1907 and was drawn by William Arnott's daughter in law.

The logo is of a parrot eating a biscuit as well as some kind of barley or wheat shown on the logo. The parrot is a native Australian bird so this symbolizes Australia and in a way, "Australians" enjoying the biscuit which is presumably an Arnotts one. The wheat symbolizes the quality and ingredient of the biscuits. (This is my interpretation)

The colours that Arnotts uses in their logo are red for the main 'Arnotts' typography, blue, green, yellow and red for the parrot, and gold for the subtext and barley or wheat image. I read somewhere a long time ago that the colour red evokes feelings of hunger. Perhaps this is why Arnotts chose the main colour to be red. The gold lettering underneath suggests quality.

A serif font has been used in the main text which reads 'Arnotts'. Whereas the subtext is in a sans-serif font. I believe the main text is in a serif font to show history and tradition, to show that Arnotts has been there for a long time. Perhaps it is also trying to symbolize that the biscuits are for any style or person? (Just a random thought)

*Please note that there was not very much information on the logo nor the branding image so i just gave some of my thoughts on why they used the colours they did and ect
